DeForest Kelley, well known to Trekkies out there in the world as Dr. "Bones" McCoy from Star Trek, died in early June of this year. We at Temporal Vortex would like to say that the man had a good innings for his age. (But, this will know stop all the rumours of an original cast reunion Star Trek film.)

Star Trek - Deep Space Nine has finally come to an end in the U.S. But, it has created some controversy. J. Michael Straczyinski, creator of the more superior, Babylon 5, has kicked up a fuss stating that the DS9 finale is a complete rip-off of the B5 finale, "Sleeping in the Light". As we at Temporal Vortex are yet to see the DS9 finale, we cannot make comment, though we do agree that DS9 is a rip-off of B5, anyway. (Also, knowing what Brannon Braga is like for stealing other people's scripts, it wouldn't be surprising.)

We now only hope that Paramount will not create another Star Trek series to replace DS9, as many people are now feeling that Star Trek has become tiresome and in need of a very long vacation.

Rumours have been reaching our ears about the future fate of Doctor Who. Word of mouth has it that Rowan Atkinson's company, Tiger Aspect, may well be wanting to open up negotiations with the BBC, after they made a great, if not humorous, take on the series for this year's Comic Relief night. It would also be presumed that Rowan will also carry on with his rendition of The Doctor, if Paul McGann cannot be talked back to continue the part.

A bit of a curious surprise, however, is that Hugh Grant made a comment, in an interview, that he enjoyed doing his part in "The Curse of Fatal Death" so much, that he'd love to take on the part of The Doctor, if ever the chance arrives. Well, Hugh my old boy, Hollywood are planning a big screen version of Doctor Who, and guess who's name is on the top of the pile? He is the typical English actor, right now, and Hollywood are loving Hugh, thanks to "Notting Hill".

The BBC will be finally releasing Doctor Who - "The Curse of Fatal Death" on video, in September. It is said to be an extended version with added scenes, and a documentary on the end on the making of the story. An added bonus will be a collection of Doctor Who skits from various BBC comedy shows, including Lenny Henry and an unseen French and Saunders skit.

No doubt, everyone out there has been caught up in all the hype for Star Wars Episode One - The Phantom Menace. You can't help tripping over the toys, the chocolate bars, ice lollies, breakfast cereals, T-shirts, toys, the posters, etc., etc. But, at the end of the day, will it all be worth it? Well, we shall all find out on July 15th. Many cinemas are doing a midnight opening. So, if any of you out there are in the Sheffield area, and plan to see Star Wars at the midnight opening, you'll see Carl, our creator, at the Virgin Megaplex at the Broughton Lane Centertainment Park. If you do see him, buy him a drink in the bar, he'll like that.

Filming for Star Wars - Episode Two will be starting at the beginning of next year. What the storyline will hold is a closely guarded secret, though, we put bets on it being the Clone Wars, which involved the Mandalorian Knights, of which Boba Fett was once a member.

For those with satellite or cable, The TV series of The Crow, starring Mark Decascuss, has now started on the Sci-Fi Channel. It is one hell of a brilliant series, so we advise you to watch it. It starts by retelling the story of Eric Draven, as seen in the movie, which starred the late Brandon Lee. But, this time round, the story is more filled out with a lot more sub-plots and character stories. Top notch stuff.

Sky One has the rights to show the Babylon 5 spin-off series, Crusade, as of mid-summer. We can't understand why Channel Four have made no attempt to get it, as they usually have all things Babylon 5. But, they haven't even yet got the rights to any of the TV movies that were made. We strongly advise people who plan to see Crusade, to watch the B5 TV movie "A Call To Arms" first, so to understand the whole plan of Crusade. We'll try and get more info from Channel Four, as and when they want to communicate with anyone on the subject.
